In the Intellectual Property Rights research unit at FIZ Karlsruhe, we analyze data protection, copyright, and IT law issues related to current challenges, such as AI applications. We also develop recommendations for the scientific community and science policy.
At the data protection unit of the IPR department, we engage in researching on the variety of data protection topics, e.g. GDPR, LED (Law Enforcement Directive 680/2018) and the AI Act. We analyse the dynamic developments in the field and publish these in nationally and internationally recognised journals, present these at important conferences and other fora, and participate in the political consultation with opinions and recommendations. Our team is international and offers opportunities both for the younger academics and established post-doctoral researchers.

Your responsibilities:
- Contributing to the ‘Collaborative Project: GDPR-Compliant Language Systems for Informational Self-Determination – Transparent NLP’
- Carrying out all tasks arising from the project: communicating with project partners, drafting reports, collaborating with the project coordinator
- Drafting new applications for third-party funding
- Contributing to the team: preparing slides and teaching materials
Your qualifications:
- Law degree (1st or 2nd state examination) or equivalent qualification
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to organise your own work
- Communication skills
